About Gateway Pediatric Surgery Center

Founded in 2015, Gateway Pediatric Surgery Center specializes in the surgical treatment of children. Our facility is in a newly renovated building with top-of-the-line equipment and operating rooms that best serve our patients and staff. We are an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) that has been accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) since 2017.

In order to meet the AAAHC Standards, we operate with the following equipment:

• Two class-C operating rooms
• New GE monitors and anesthesia machines
• Crash cart
• Malignant hyperthermia cart
• Central air/medical gasses
• Central suction
• Generator and battery backup power
• Emergency transfer agreement with Legacy Emanuel

There are multiple benefits of bringing your child to receive care at GPSC. For example, at our facility we offer a private consultation room with video interpretation for non-English speaking families, bright, open pre- and post-op areas that are available to parents before and after surgery, and secure staff locker rooms with both a restroom and shower.

Additionally, our patients can relax in our family-friendly waiting room. Our waiting room has a number of amenities, including bean-bag chairs, children's books and movies, and recliner seats.

We are proud to offer families multiple benefits when opting to choose us for a treatment plan instead of an in-office care facility. Many studies, including one from Becker’s ASC Review, highlighted some differences between in-office surgery and procedures performed at an ASC. Of note, two big findings included:

• The cost is twice as high for procedures performed in an office versus ones performed in an ASC
• The risk of admission to a hospital within 7 days of outpatient surgery is higher for patients who had their surgery done in an office versus in an ASC

One of the cornerstones in pediatric surgery is anesthesia, and it is vitally important. Kids are not tiny adults, though sometimes they think they are! Children have unique needs, and we have the staff to handle them expertly.
